Final Post

I am posting this final post with this amazing view in Waikiki in Honolulu!

As I look back on my work, I am proud of the persona I chose. It was a realistic persona and a relatable beat that my readers really seemed to enjoy. In today’s society, awareness of healthy eating and fitness are increasing. People are becoming more and more conscious about what they’re putting in their bodies. New healthy food trends and workouts are constantly emerging, and I loved being able to share my knowledge and experiences with others, especially since it is something I am so passionate about.

I would choose to develop this voice before creating another one. I would say I’m definitely not a writer, but I did enjoy this format. I was able to be conversational and real, and let my personality shine through my writing. Blogging was new to me and I did enjoy posting blogs each week. It was more fun than I thought! As for Twitter, I wasn’t a huge user before this class and I learned to use it more, but could work on using it even more. I am not in the habit of checking it all of the time, and I have to continue to work on that.

Because I liked this form of writing, I think I can take a lot with me to my further courses as I continue the program. I am not sure where my career will take me but I should be able to take some lessons with me there as well. I learned better ways to grab a reader’s attention, and how to write more concise and to the point. Overall this was a fun way to submit assignments.

Commit to Fit campaign

Video Script:

Are you trying to make yourself healthier? How about your family? We know how hard it is to stay on track and we’re here to help. One of the biggest problems we see is that people overwhelm themselves which causes them to give up after about a week or a month. Or they’re just “too busy” and can’t stay on track.

The Commit to Fit campaign is set up to give you small goals to achieve each month so it’s easier to make a change. The goals will be geared towards all ages. They will be general enough that beginners and children can accomplish them, and can be made more difficult for adults.

Want to get involved? It’s so easy! Follow us on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat and YouTube. Look out for the goal of the month, and mention the hashtag #committofit when you post your acheivements on social media. Like I said, easy! Go to our website and join the commitment today!

Target Audience

We will target males and females, kids to adults, and especially families! What a great way to get the family healthy, and have them do it together! It’s also great to have the kids start learning healthy habits at a young age so they can carry that with them as they reach teenage years and adulthood.

Our Strategy

Our strategy is to post the next month’s goal at the end of the previous month, so you have time to prepare for your goal! We will promote our campaign using #committofit. We will begin with a 3-month plan, and then evaluate from there if we will continue based on amount of followers on each social media channel, the amount of tweets using our hashtag and our mentions on social media.

Abstract Presentation – Healthy Vending Machines

Script:

With more than 2/3 of adults and more than 1/3 of children and adolescents ages 6 to 19 considered overweight or obese, obesity continues to be a growing epidemic in the United States. Because of this, there is an increased awareness and people are becoming more conscious about what they put in their bodies. The Quinnipiac community has done a great job of spreading awareness and providing health conscious options to both students and faculty & staff. There’s a gym on each campus, fitness classes, healthier choices in the cafe and QU Wellness Living Well for employees, but we can do better!

I am proposing healthy vending machines on each campus, in various locations. Vending machines are used by students, faculty, staff and visitors. Research shows that sales have increased when healthy vending machines were swapped out with the standard ones filled with high carb, high sugar snacks and drinks. With people being more conscious of what they’re putting in their bodies, they will enjoy having healthier options on campus.

When a student is stressed about homework assignments or exams, or a staff member is having a rough day at work, more times than not they will turn to a snack to comfort them. Since they’re stressed, they’re looking for something quick, easy and convenient. Where do you go? To the vending machine. Vending machines are created for convenience, and having unhealthy options is promoting an unhealthy lifestyle. By adding healthier choices in vending machines on campus, we can change that, and make “healthy” a convenience!

Healthy snacks will fuel their bodies with the right nutrition, and in turn they will have better focus. A healthy snack will give energy from the nutrition rather than a sugar rush from the sugary snacks found in standard vending machines.

The purpose of this business plan is to spend the necessary funds to swap out the current vending machines for healthy vending machines. Let’s enhance the Quinnipiac community with healthy habits.

Opening Paragraph – Healthy Vending

Elevator Pitches

Pitch 1 | Healthy Vending

As Quinnipiac continues to make efforts in becoming a healthier community, one thing remains unchanged – the vending machine options.

Vending machines are for convenience. With the busy schedules of our students, faculty and staff, sometimes a vending machine is the quickest

option for a snack between classes or meetings. Or, we simply need a mid-day snack and don’t feel like waiting in the cafe. Or maybe the cafe is closed. Either way, the vending machines are frequently used on campus.

With more people concerned about their health (and their figure), they are being conscientious about what they put in their bodies. Our current vending machines consist of drinks and snacks that are high in sugars, fats and carbohydrates.

I am proposing that Quinnipiac switch out their current vending machines for healthy ones. These machines will include snacks that are lower in sugar and carbs, and higher in protein and fibers. These healthy snacks would benefit the students, faculty and staff at Quinnipiac because the snacks will consist of vitamins and protein, which help with better energy levels.

The machines will have bright, attractive graphics, and will have a touchscreen display for ordering. You will be able to click on any item and see the nutritional information. There will be multiple payment options including the Q-Card.

Let’s make healthy food convenient and promote a healthy lifestyle for our Quinnipiac community!
